Little Girl on the Prairie

DARLIS SAILORS grew up in small towns on the prairies of South Dakota. While a teenager, her minister father moved his family to a small pastorate in the metropolis of Phoenix, Arizona.

Darlis adjusted to the lack of four seasons, but never could appreciate rocky yards sprayed green or tumble weed snowmen sprayed white.

College Dreams and Realities
In Phoenix, Darlis earned her Associate of Arts degree at Phoenix College. This was followed by one year of teacher training at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.

Her dream of going away to college came true when she transferred to a private college in Costa Mesa, California, now known as Vanguard University. After graduating with her Bachelor of Arts degree, she passed the CBEST to become a California Certified Teacher.

Happy Times and Health Challenges
In the Fall of 1966, Darlis gained her MRS degree by marrying a fellow student. Together they worked in a wide variety of church ministries in California, Arizona and Washington state.

In 2007, Darlis was treated for Stage 3 breast cancer, in addition to a diagnosis of Inflammatory Breast Cancer. With much prayer support and excellent care, she underwent surgery, chemo, and radiation.

Recovery was followed by retirement in 2009.

Education Diffused
Darlis was an elementary school teacher for five years. This was followed by five years of teaching piano students in her private studio.

Her teaching expertise was also put to work in training teachers for Bible classes and youth ministries. Seminars were presented to board members and church leaders, and she established grief recovery classes in California and Arizona.

New Day by Darlis
Writing skills were put to work in church bulletins, newsletters and training manuals. The same was true in her work as office manager in other jobs.

She began sharing inspirational stories by email in 2014. Now they can easily be read on cell phones, too.
